Grammar Point #1: -(으)러 가다

Basic Meaning

This grammar pattern expresses the purpose of going somewhere to do something. It’s similar to the English expression “go to do something.”

How to Use

  • Attach -(으)러 가다 to the verb stem
  • If the verb stem ends in a consonant → 으러 가다
  • If the verb stem ends in a vowel → 러 가다

Examples with English

  1. 공부하다 (to study)
  • 공부하러 가다 = to go to study
  • 도서관에 공부하러 가요 = I’m going to the library to study
  1. 먹다 (to eat)
  • 먹으러 가다 = to go to eat
  • 식당에 밥 먹으러 가요 = I’m going to the restaurant to eat
  1. 보다 (to see/watch)
  • 보러 가다 = to go to see/watch
  • 영화 보러 가요 = I’m going to watch a movie

Grammar Point #2: 도 (Also/Too/Even)

Basic Meaning

도 is a particle that means “also,” “too,” or “even” in English.

How to Use

  • Attach directly to nouns
  • Replaces other particles like 이/가 or 을/를
  • Can be used to mean “even” in some contexts

Examples with English

  1. Meaning “also/too”
  • 저도 학생이에요 = I am also a student
  • 커피도 마셨어요 = I drank coffee too
  1. Meaning “even”
  • 주말에도 일해요 = I work even on weekends
  • 아이도 할 수 있어요 = Even a child can do it

Verbs

  • 공부하다 = to study
  • 먹다 = to eat
  • 보다 = to watch/see
  • 가다 = to go
  • 마시다 = to drink
